Difficult News and a Petition for Prayer (A Note From Angie)

Posted by on Jan 5, 2013 in Updates | 29 Comments

The following note from Angie isn’t one we’ve loved reading, but it is one that reflects the true ugliness of cancer and unpredictability of Will’s illness. The #GoTeamGray core would like to ask you to consider increasing your prayers and donations to Will & Angie, as this next phase of the battle will bring even more challenges than initially anticipated. Here’s Angie’s letter…

Will has continued to have a very difficult week since our ER visit last Friday.  He has been very sick and has lost quite a bit of weight.  He was able to meet with maxiofacial and they worked on his obturator so that it fits much better than it did previously.  They are worried that he may have an infection from the irritation.

Yesterday, we met with the medical oncologist.  While we were there we received some potentially devastating news.  It is possible that the tumor has already starting growing back.  They aren’t certain that is what they see, but based on a CT Scan from the trip to the ER, they see something that they believe could possibly be tumor.  Because of this the oncologist wants to do everything in the book to treat Will, which means he is going to have chemotherapy and radiation simultaneously.  He said the tumor is so “nasty” that the cells are doubling in size every 5-7 days.  The oncologist is going to do his best to get everything together to start treatment either Monday or Tuesday of this coming week.

We will also meet with the ENT surgeon Monday morning.  We are hopeful that he will able to give us some clarity on the possibility of the infection and tumor.

If you would like to pray with us, please pray that…

  • What they see is NOT tumor and that they would be able to figure out what it is quickly.
  • Will would be able to start radiation and chemo on Monday…that schedules and insurance would all work out for this to be possible.
  • Will would have enough strength to get through all of this.  He has lost so much weight and feels very weak to start, but the oncologist said it is critical that he complete the treatments.  So please pray that he will be strong enough to complete them.  It will last 5-7 weeks, but we still don’t know exactly how long.

We are both pretty scared and disheartened by the news.  Please pray that we would be given emotional strength as well and trust in the Lord’s will for us and our lives.

With love and hope of a better day,

Angie

Angie and Will, we’re on our knees here. May the light of God bring increased hope and strength for you both.

With nothing more but the love and grace that renews us daily,

The #GoTeamGray Core

    Will and Angie,
    Words from “Fear Not”:
“To those who think your prayers have all been worthless,
To those who think your chains are yours for life,
To those who think you cannot leave the darkness
and bring your brokenness into the light,
Fear not, our God is with us, Emmanuel redeeming love has come.
Fear not, we have a Savior, and nothing is impossible with God,
    Fear not.”

I don’t have words that express the deep sadness for what you are going through right now, but I do know that nothing is impossible with God. Resting in that allows us to face the next day without fear. Please know that we are praying for both of you, that the spot is not a tumor, that schedules will all work together to start treatment on Monday, and that healing and strength will come to both of you. We love you across the miles.
    Blessings,
    Dottie Myatt

    Lord,
We thank you that what they see is NOT a tumor. We agree with our brother & sister on this matter; & your Word promises that where we agree, You are with us. We thank you that this shadow is just that and nothing more. Thank you that the cancer HAS been rooted out & will NOT return, in Jesus’ Name!
We thank you that Will, will be able to start radiation and chemo on Monday & that every detail needed for this to be done, will be put in the proper and perfect order, in Jesus’ Name! You are a God of detail & we know that you are crossing every t and dotting every i.
We thank you that Will, will have the strength to go through all that he needs to, specifically the chemo & radiation. We thank you that You will sustain him; that he will be able to keep nutrional things down and be strong to the point of gaining his weight back through this process, because You are the Great Physician & Healer, in Jesus’ Name.
We agree with our brother and sister and thank You that You are the Great Provider; You are the Great God Who is There; You are the One Who Sees & Knows; You are our Healer; You are our Salvation, our Savior; You are our Redeemer; You are the Great I AM!! All praises be to the One Who sits on the Throne; All praises and glory to You Almighty King forever and ever! Amen

    angie and will,
you are at the top of the list for the most beautiful people i know. you are God loving and fearing people who are spreading His love and faith like wild fire and I am certain that satan is angry about that. But PRAISE GOD He is bigger than our illnesses, our fears, our doubts, our unknowns and uncertainties. He is bigger than our minds can even fathom. He is bigger and He has overcome! Your faith through this situation has strengthened mine and has given me a reason to pray solemnly before God. God will bring you through this and He will bring good from it though it is impossible to see right now. I can’t even pretend to imagine the fears and heart break and questions you have right now but what I see and understand is your faith and strength as well as a band of family and friends supporting you and lifting you up in prayer surrounding you in love and support. As dark as this valley is that you are in you are surrounded and embraced by an incredible amount of love and light. It’s brilliance is stunning. I worked for a man who was diagnosed with terminal cancer. He had anointing and prayer and the laying of hands and he was cured from his disease. He has gone on to create an organization that is changing lives and healing people all around the world in the name of Jesus Christ. Keep the faith. Keep looking up. Literally. Look up. I was in a therapy session and they said, look up and take a deep breath. It is nearly impossible to feel heavy and think negative thoughts when you do this.
Daniel and I are praying for you. My parents are praying for you. My church is praying for you.
“for I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you ‘Do not be afraid, I am with you'” Isaiah 4:13 (i think :) )

I know God will give you the strength to face whatever lies ahead. He will never forsake or abandon you. He cries when you cry and hurts when you hurt. He alone knows what lies ahead and is preparing you both for it. We do not know what His will is for our lives but we can trust it is for our good. I, too, faced and beat breast cancer….while my dear husband succumbed to kidney cancer. All I can do is praise God for seeing us through. Love and hugs and prayers.

    Will & Angie,

Despite the miles and the radio silence, please know that we are praying for you during this difficult time. There are countless people who have never met you who are joining together in prayer and supplication on your behalf––your faithfulness has been a light that shines into their hearts and lives, even from afar. May the Lord continue to bless you and keep you, and to provide you with an abundance of mercy, grace, hope, and strength.

    With love,

    Joel & Lauren

BUT he is now cancer free!! SO..hang in there and know that it can be beat! Haven’t met you personally, but are connected thru Christ, and pray for you both daily by name.

Still praying with aching hearts. Philippians 4:6-8 These verses are so easy to read, so hard to do when life is on the line, but such good instructions to follow.
